Neri&hu developed a design philosophy they call "Material Ecology." This
philosophy is based on the idea that design should 1 e inspired by and in
harmony with natural systems, rather than imposing human-made structures
on the environment.Material Ecology is:multidisciplinary approach that
combines design, engineering, biology, and computer science.
The goal is to create products and structures that are not only functional
and aesthetically pleasing but also environmentally sustainable.
The original intention of Neri&Hu Design and Research Office is to merge
various design disciplines, such as architecture, interior design, and product
design, to create unique and innovative designs that respond to the cultural,
social, and historical context of each project. The studio aims to create spaces
and products that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and
meaningful for their users. They believe that design should be humancentered
and should enhance the user's experience while creating a sense of place and
identity.
Some of the materials they commonly use include natural materials such as
wood, stone, and brick, as well as metal, concrete, glass, and recycled
materials. They also incorporate textiles and other soft materials into their
interior designs. In addition to the choice of materials, Neri& Hu often
emphasize the texture, color, and pattern of the materials to a create a
unique and distinctive design. They believe that materials play a significant
role in creating a sense of place and identity and are an essential component
of the design process.Neri& Hu also place a strong emphasis on sustainability
and environmentally-friendly materials. They aim to use materials that are
locally sourced and produced, as well as recycled and renewable materials.
